Get to know Kjell Skar

Kjell Skar (74) is originally trained as a mechanical engineer but has been working in sales and customer relations for Agito for 15 years.

Over 30 years of experience

He holds the position of Executive Vice President of Sales and has over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, serving as a project manager for FMC Technologies and Managing Director of Minox Technology.

He initiated his journey with Agito as a temporary consultant, transitioning to a permanent role within six months, subsequently securing a stake in the company.

After several years in the industry, Kjell has built an impressive portfolio of international clients, including major names like Shell and BP.

I have traveled extensively to the USA and Brazil, among many other countries. With numerous international clients, dealing with time differences has often led to late-night working hours. There is no limit to how much one can work in the field of sales and marketing; it seems like there’s always more to be done. Sometimes I envy those with regular nine-to-five jobs, but at the same time, I am always ready to pursue new clients and opportunities. I find it very enjoyable, says Kjell, smiling.

Kjell’s lasting commitment to Agito: I find joy and influence in tight-knit team culture

There is no doubt that Kjell enjoys his time at Agito. Although he could have retired several years ago, he chose to stay.

“I am the second-largest shareholder in the company, so that has been a contributing factor to my continued presence. However, it’s also because I enjoy what I do. We are a tight-knit team with significant influence.”

In his previous roles, Kjell felt he was too far from where decisions were made. At Agito, the close-knit environment allows for insight into everything happening and the opportunity to influence one’s own daily work.

Beyond boardrooms: Agito’s Kjell embraces life’s rich tapestry through travel, volunteering, and philosophical pursuits

When not at work, Kjell spends his free time with his wife, tending to their large old house with a garden, engaging in volunteer work, and traveling.

I love to travel, experience new cultures, and meet new people to learn about others. One of my favorite countries is Brazil, especially Rio De Janeiro, and South Africa with Cape Town. It’s a fantastic place with stunning natural surroundings. I find it fascinating to see the mountain peaks surrounding the city.

A significant portion of his time is dedicated to volunteering at language cafes, helping newcomers learn Norwegian.

When the war broke out in Ukraine, several Ukrainians came to Norway and the language cafe. Meeting people who had just come from war and hearing their stories was powerful. You can learn a lot from other people’s experiences.

Kjell is also interested in philosophy and frequently meets with other philosophers to discuss life’s big questions.

Announces retirement: a journey to warmer horizons

This year, Kjell plans to retire. His goal is more travel, with trips already planned to Greece and Svalbard.

I don’t like the cold and winter, so as a retiree, I’ll spend more time traveling to warmer places, Kjell laughs.

While looking forward to retirement, he doesn’t see himself completely letting go of Agito.

“I’ll probably keep my access card,” he jokes.

As Kjell steps down, Agito is in search of his successor.

“I hope they find someone who is outgoing, can maintain good customer relationships, and has determination. As I always say, there are many small streams that make a big river. We have a significant international customer network that is important to maintain.”
